Circumnavigating The Gambia

In April 2018, I’ll be circumnavigating around The Gambia!

Welcome to The Gambia

As always, one of the main aims of the expedition is to inspire others to get out on an adventure of their own, particularly encouraging young people to push the boundaries of their comfort zone. Today’s young explorers will be the leaders of tomorrow and I believe there’s no better education than travel.  This is particularly important for building an appreciation for what young people today take for granted in western society, compared to the hardships of other social communities around the world! But I’m also going to be doing much more than that while circumnavigating The Gambia……..

The #AroundTheGambia Expedition Blog is now Live!

Circumnavigating The Gambia

Expedition Aims…..

I’ll be heading out with friend and expedition partner Martyn and heading far in land to the most remote areas of the country. Here, we aim to deliver first aid training and medical supplies, as well as water filtration bottles and stationery to those communities, families and children that have so little. The monthly average wage in the Gambia is just £16-£30! So even the smallest amount of aid offered goes a very, very long way.  We’ll be buying essential supplies in the capital of Banjul before we head up country.  If you’d like to support us, there’s a link to a Just Giving Page below.  For example, just £10 will buy enough children’s specific medicine to support several villages en route! We’d be really grateful for any support.  Follow our progress on social media using #AroundTheGambia

Water-to-go bottle

To mark the start of new partnership between LoveAdventures and Water-to-Go, we’ll be delivering bottles to families in one of the most remote villages in The Gambia. Combining 3 different filtration technologies, Water-to-go bottles eliminate 99.9% of all microbiological contaminants, while also filtering bad smells, tastes, bacteria, viruses and more! They’re also environmentally friendly and support the fight to reduce plastic waste. Rehydrate with safe, clean water from any non-salt water source on your next expedition and use my unique discount code ‘LOVEADVENTURES20‘ to get a massive 20% off from the Water-to-Go website!

First Aid Supplies

On this expedition, I’ll be teaming up with a colleague and close friend, Martyn, who works as a Public Services Lecturer at Havant and South Down College in Portsmouth.  We’ll be delivering much needed medical supplies and basic first aid training to remote village communities en route. We’d love you help support us in buying essential medical supplies by donating to our Just Giving Page.

We’ve got our hands on an awesome early release of the award-winning Land Rover Explore Outdoor Phone! With its advanced expedition-focused features and dedicated ‘Adventure Pack’, it will be keeping us firmly on track, even in the most remote areas of The Gambia. It’s fully waterproof, drop tested and built to withstand extreme temperatures, with a massive battery that won’t cut our day short while on the go.

The prevelance of Malaria in The Gambia is extremely high.  That’s why we’re using Craghoppers Nosilife insect repellant clothing on our expedition to protect us from the elements and all those little nasties!

We’re proud to be supported by Firepot meals from Outdoorfood.com. Firepots are the LoveAdventures expedition meals of choice, with their extra large 1000-calorie option menus. They also cooked locally in Wiltshire too. Yum!

We’ve been supported by Havant and South Downs College with a generous contribution of medical and stationery supplies. They’ll go a long way in improving the lives of families in the most remote areas of the Gambia.
