Three Peaks Africa Challenge!

Challenge yourself in 2019 and join me on an expedition of a lifetime – the Three Peaks Africa Challenge!

Set your 2019 Goal!

How long do you think you’ll stick to your New Year’s resolution this time? One week? Two? You may even manage a whole month! We all know that the best way to stay motivated is to work towards a tangible goal.  So for my next big adventure in 2019, I’ve partnered up with Three Peaks Africa to create one hell of an epic expedition.  I’m now looking for some crazy team members!

Here’s the plan…. 17-day and 3 rather large peaks!

Next up we’ll scramble up Mount Meru in the heart of the Arusha National Park. At 4,562m above sea level, its the second highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth highest in the whole of Africa.

First up, we’ll be trekking up Ol Doinyo Lengai (the “Mountain of God”), an active volcano that last erupted in 2006! At approximately 3,000m above sea level (the height keeps on changing!!!), we’ll climb all the way to the crater rim where you’ll be able to hear, smell, and maybe even catch a glimpse inside the active crater!

Having fully acclimatized, we’ll then take on the final mountain; Kilimanjaro, and one of the World’s mighty 7 Summits! Now I’ve never been one for following the crowds – that’s why we’ll be climbing by the lesser frequented and more challenging Western Breach route! While still totally achievable, it does require you to do a bit of scrambling which definitely adds to the excitement. To top it all off (quite literally) we’ll be spending the night inside Kilimanjaro’s crater at Crater Camp at 5,700m!

To make sure the team is completely prepared for the expedition, I’ll be running a series of UK-based training weekends in Snowdonia, where you’ll get to meet the rest of the team as well as practice the techniques needed on the expedition, such as scrambling, walking over undulating terrain, night ascents and wild camping. Of course, on the expedition itself, we’ll be using a team of porters for much of the logistics, movement of kit and equipment, and cooking. But I’m a firm believer in practicing these skills ourselves wherever we can.

While we’re out there, we’ll also have the opportunity to gain a fascinating insight into the lives of the local Maasai, as well as time to undertake a vehicle safari.
